The Naming Ceremony
A Naming Ceremony is a beautiful and heart-warming ceremony that is held to introduce and welcome a child into the family and the wider community. These ceremonies are usually held at home with the family and close friends in attendance.
Guardians or Mentors can be asked to assist the child’s parents with the moral upbringing and protection of the child.
Grandparents, sibling and other family members can also be a special part of the ceremony and can make promises or give special gifts to the child.
There are many beautiful rituals that can be included into Naming Ceremonies, such as;
- Releasing butterflies or balloons
- Planting a tree in the child’s honour
- A star can be named in the child’s honour.
- The guests can write in a special book, making promises and
suggestions to the child.
- A family heirloom can be passed down or a new gift can be given to the child.
- A specially decorated candle can be lit and then kept as a keepsake for the child.
